The home of the world famous Golden Temple, Amritsar is known for its traditional cuisine. Because of the predominance of dairy farming, the city-folk consume large quantities of milk and milk products. Wheat is the important and nutritious staple diet of the people of Amritsar. They specially serve chilled buttermilk in long steel glasses just plain and topped with a trademark clump of thick cream. The legendary ‘Amritsari Fish’ seasoned with fresh lime juice continues to be a big favorite. Its pickles, murabbas, papads and warian, sweet-meats, vadis, other spices, and ampapad are really delicious and hold a special place among India's export items.
