Amritakalaseswarar Amudaghatesar Temple




Situated on the banks of Arisilaru River at Kalayanallur, Amritakalaseswarar-Amudaghatesar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located 3 km south-east of the Kumbakonam Railway Station. Legend says that in a deluge that submerged the earth a kalasam (pot) containing samples of the then existing species settled at this place. Hence the name Amritakalaseswarar.

The temple has a single prakaram with a tank near it. There is a separate place of worship for Goddess Amritavalli. The temple theertham is Chaturveda Theertham. Sage Sundarar has glorified this temple through his pathigams. Saptastana festival is the main festival observed in the month of Chithirai (mid April - mid May).
