Ambaji




Ambaji is a very famous religious town in Banaskantha District of Gujarat and is situated on the Arasur hill near Mount Abu. It is 179 km from Ahmedabad. The famous Maa Ambaji temple attracts a large number of pilgrims from Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is the principal shrine of Goddess Amba. Some Jain temples such as Gabbar Temple and Kumbharia Temple are located in the vicinity. Poshina Port is about 45 km from Ambaji.

Ambaji's tribal population consists of silversmiths, potters, arrow makers as well as basket weavers. The main tribal groups are the Bhils and the Garacias. Ambaji is famous for its marble sculpture and silver tribal jewellery. The small town of Kumbhariyaji, which has beautifully sculpted Jain temples, lies close to Ambaji.

The Bhadrapadi Poornima is the main festival celebrated here. Navratri and Diwali are the other important festivals.

As this is a religious place, the prime sites for visit include temples such as Neminathji Temple, Mahavir Swami Temple, Parshwanathji Temple, Sambhavnathji Temple and Shantinathji Temple.

Hotel Ambaji International, located about 2 km from the Maa Ambaji temple, is a famous hotel that provides accommodations here.

The nearest airport is at Ahmedabad. The nearest railhead is Abu Road Railway Station, 20 km from Ambaji. Local means of transport includes taxi, jeeps and auto-rickshaws.
