Alchi, a small village, is set amidst the gorges of the Indus River. It is located 70 Km from
Leh, on the road to Kargil.
Alchi Gompa, which is over 1000 years old, is popular of the highlights. This is a place of worship for Buddhist, and the monks of Likir have been maintaining this place.
Another attraction is Dhu-kang Temple, which dates back to the 11th century. Other prominent temples are the shrines of Sum-tsek, Lotsawa Lha-Khang and Manjushri Lha-Khang. Delicious fruits such as apricot and plum are grown here in abundance.
May to September is the best time to visit the place. Accommodation facilities are available in and around Alchi. The nearest airport is at Leh. Buses and taxis are the means of local transport.
