Spanning over an area of about five square kilometers, Alanganallur is a small town in Madurai District, Tamil Nadu. It is situated about 9 km south of Palamedu, 11 km north-east of Cholavandan (Sholavandan), and 17 km north-east of Sakkanurani. Madurai, the Temple City, is about 17 km and Tiruchirapalli is 109 km from Alanganallur. Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, Pazhamuthircholai Murugan Temple at Pazhamuthircholai, Rajaji Park, Kutladampatti Waterfalls, Nallamangaibagaswamy Hill Temple at Piranmalai are places worth visiting in the neighborhood. Alanganallur is popular for Jallikattu (bull fighting), which is held on the eve of Maatu Pongal. This festival is celebrated in the month of January. Tourist Department organizes a fair every year.
