Alang is located on the coast between Bhavnagar and
Talaja, about 55 km away from Bhavnagar. One of the largest ship-breaking yards in the world is located at Alang. This is also India's largest ship-breaking site. Large ships from America, Europe, and Asia are carried here for scrapping. Supertankers, container ships, warships and other vessels are reduced to scrap by 20,000 workers toiling day and night. The nature of the tide and proximity of industrial zones make this site suitable for such maritime activities.
