Alai Minar

Alai Minar, unfulfilled dream of Ala-ud-din Khilji, stands north of Qutab Minar and Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, in Mehrauli, Delhi.

This 27 m high tower of red sandstone was built to memorize Ala-ud-din Khilji’s triumph in the Deccan region. The tower was originally planned twice as high as Qutab Minar, but before it could be finished he died and the project was abandoned.
