Akshayalingeswarar-Kediliyappar Temple




Akshayalingeswarar-Kediliyappar Temple is a maadakkaovil located on top of a hill called Chitrakootagiri, at Keevalur near Nagapattinam. The principal deity is Lord Shiva referred to as Kediliyappar.

The beauty of the temple lies in its rajagopuram and the majestic walls. Inscriptions from the Chola and Maratha period are found in the temple. There are separate shrines for Subramanyar, Sundara Vinayakar, Anjuvattammai, Venkatachalapati and Goddess Vanamulaiamman. The sacred tree is Ilandai Maram (Badari) and the sacred theertham is Saravanappoikai. This temple is glorified by saints Sambandar and Appar through their pathigams. The main festival is the annual Bhrammotsavam celebrated in the month of Chithirai (mid April - mid May).
