Akola city, the administrative headquarters of Akola District
, is situated on the banks of the Morna River, in north central Maharashtra
. It is a bustling commercial center as well as the hub of cotton trade in the state. Akola is also an important educational region in the district.

Akola is well connected to other parts of the state by the
