Airavateswarar Temple




Airavateswarar Temple, also known as Edirkolpaadi Temple, is a highly revered shrine situated at Melaittirumananjeri, near Mayiladuthurai, in Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple enshrines Airavateswarar as the presiding deity along with his consort Malarkuzhal Maadammai.

Airavateswarar Temple abounds in architectural and rare sculptural specimens of workmanship. The temple features preserves inscriptions from the imperial Chola period. The first stone structure dates back to the period of Kulottunga Cholan.

Legend has it that Bharata Muni received Lord Shiva as a bride-groom at this place.

Airavateswarar Temple is just 4 km from Kutralam Railway Station.
