Abujhmarias Tribe




Abujhmarias are tribals from Abujhmar hills west of Narayanpur, Bastar Districtin Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. 'Abujh' means 'unknown' and 'mar' means 'hills.' 'Abujhmaria' means, 'people of unknown or little known hills.' These tribes have their own distinct language. Abujhmarias who roam the mountainous terrains, eat ants and rats. Women are bare-bosomed, and men go about with just a loin cloth. The Abhujmarias use a different language called Halbi to communicate with members of other tribes.

Koqsar is one of the important festivals of the Abujhmarias.
