Aakalagavi

A beautiful place for nature enthusiasts, Aakalagavi is famous for caves resembling the face of a calf. These are really a wonder in the wooded Western Ghats. One can enter the cave from one end and exit from the other. Interior of the caves have some conical formations that hang from the ceiling, which were formed more than a million years ago. These caves are crowded with devotees during the Shivratri festival.

Other interesting places nearby are Mahamane water falls, Haralayyana Chilume, Vibhuti Kanaja, synthetic rocks, and Kulagi Nisargadhama. Buses ply to Ulavi from Dandeli and from Ulavi one has to trek through the forest for about 3 km to reach Aakalagavi.
