Samthar Plateau



Samthar Plateau is a scenic plateau situated about 80 km south of Kalimpong and 45 km from Lava, in West Bengal. Situated at an elevation of 1,400 m, it offers panoramic views of the snow ranges stretching from Kanchenjunga in the west to Gymochen in the east.

With its charming stone and thatch hamlets, terraced fields, exotic flora, forests, mountain streams and river-pools - Samthar Plateau is a much sought after tourist destination for group picnickers. The plateau is an ideal spot for nature hikes, angling, mountain biking and cultural explorations.

Majority of the people living here are Bhutias, Nepalese and Lepchas.

Samthar Plateau is well-connected with Kalimpong by road. Samco Ropeway with a thrilling rope ride provides a second access to the plateau.
