Samthar, formerly know as Samshergarh, is situated in Jhansi District of Uttar Pradesh. During 17th and 18th centuries, it was under great Gujar warriors, as an independent principality.
Chandrabhan Bar Gujar and his grand son Madan singh, Governors of the state of Datia, were the two important persons who played a great role in the creation of this independent state.
Samthar is 66 km away from Jhansi and 13 km from Moth. Moth Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
