Sajnakhali Bird Sanctuary

Sajnakhali Wildlife Sanctuary



Famous for its rich avian population, the Sajnakhali Bird Sanctuary is a part of the Sunderbans.

This sanctuary features seven colorful species of kingfishers, white bellied sea eagle, plovers, lapwings, curfews, sandpipers and occasional pelican. Animals found here are spotted deer, resus macaque, wild boar, tiger, water monitor lizard, fishing cat, otter, crocodile and batagur Terrapin.

The best time to visit is September to May. Forest rest houses and forest lodges are available for accommodation.

Gosaba is the nearest town, 50 km away. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport (166 km) is the nearest airport. The nearest railhead is at Canning, 48 km away.
