Ranji Stadium




Ranji Stadium, situated next to the magnificent Eden Garden in Kolkata, is one of the largest cricket stadiums in the world. With a seating capacity of over 1, 00, 000, the stadium holds the distinction of being the largest of its kind in Asia. The B.C. Roy Club House, one of the finest pavilions in India, which contains the suspended Press Box, is housed in this stadium. The huge electronic scoreboard is also one of its kinds in the country.

This favorite cricket ground of the nation has been the venue of many international cricket matches including the World Cup Finals 1987, World Cup Semi Finals 1996, Hero Cup and many other tournaments. It is also one of the first cricket stadiums in India to have floodlights and host day and night matches.

The Salt Lake Stadium is the other major sports ground in the city.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is about 18 km from the city.
