Ramkeli

Ramkeli is in Malda District of West Bengal, near to the state border, about five miles from the Malda railway station. It is famous as the temporary home of Sri Chaitanya, the great religious reformer of Bengal. He stayed here a few days on his way to Brindaban. The tamul tree under which Sri Chaitanya is said to have meditated is still held sacred. A small temple built under this tree enshrines Sri Chaitanya's footprints on stone. There are eight sacred tanks surrounding the temple.

Every year a festival is celebrated on the Jaishthya Sankranti, to commemorate the arrival of Sri Chaitanya. A fair is conducted for one week.

Ramkeli is also the home of many famous devotees, including Sri Nrishinga, the son of Advaita Acharya.
