Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary




Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary is situated 78 km north of Siliguri in Darjeeling District. It is a few kilometers off the National Highway 31 connecting the northeastern states with rest of India. Chapramari is about 30 km from Chalsa and Lataguri.

The 96 sq km of forest area is home to a variety of flora and fauna. Chapramari is renowned for its elephant population. The wild boar, bison, leopards and Himalayan langoor are also seen here. Royal Bengal Tiger can also be spotted very rarely. Varieties of deer, reptiles and other animals can also be seen around. The place is a heaven to bird watchers and bustles with birds like common peafowl, hornbill, green pigeon, bee-eater, roller, finch, florican, black partridge, etc.

Matiya dam is situated near the sanctuary. The Neora River flows on one side of the sanctuary and on the other side, the Bamni and Murti rivers. Gorumara National Park is north of Chapramari.
