Jalpaiguri is a culturally rich town with a long tradition of folk music and dance. It is the headquarters of
Jalpaiguri District and is 45 km southeast of
Siliguri. The Karala and Teesta rivers converge at Jalpaiguri. The river Karala flows through the center of the town and divides it into two halves.
The major attraction at Jalpaiguri is the tea gardens and the place is a center of tea industry for many decades. The beautiful Roman Catholic Church, founded by Italian priests, set in a huge campus is a major attraction. The Siliguri-Jalpaiguri state highway passes through the town, which connect the place to Northeastern India and Bhutan. New Jalpaiguri Rail Station is the nearest railway station.
