Krishnanagar

Headquarters of Nadia District, Krishnanagar is on the south of the river Jalangi and about 118 km north of Kolkata. Krishnanagar is named after Raja Krishna Chandra Rai. It is famous for the toy and clay models made in the suburb of Ghurni. Sweets such as Sarpuriya and Sarbhaja are Krishnanagar specialties.

The prominent attractions are Rajbari - the Krishnanagar palace, Durga temple, Protestant Church, and Roman Catholic Church. Religious spots such as Navadvipa, Shantipur, Mayapur, Fulia, and Bethuadahari are nearby. Barodol is celebrated in the premises of Rajbari in April. The Jagaddhatri puja is also a major festival.

Krishnanagar is a major road and rail junction. City buses and cycle rickshaws are available within the city.
