New Market




New Market, formerly known as Sir Stuart Hogg Market, is a very old bazaar located at Lindsay Street in Kolkata. Designed by an East Indian Railway Company Architect, it was opened in 1874. The red brick gothic clock tower bears testimony to past grandeur.

The market has around 2,000 stalls arranged in merchandise wise. The shops sell everything from fish, vegetables, flowers, jewellery, clothes, pastries, shoes, books, greeting cards, crockery and cutlery and kitchen equipment.

New Market is open from 10:30 to 19:30 hrs from Monday to Friday, and Saturday till 14:30 hrs. It is closed on Sundays. The market is about 5 km from Sealdah Railway Station.
