Katwa

Katwa is an ancient town in Bardhaman District. Formerly it was known as Kantakdwip or Katadia. It lies at the meeting point of the rivers Bhagirathi and Ajai. The main attraction is Gauranga Bari. Near to this is the Bara Masjid. On the other side of the town is Madhaitala where Shri Chaitanya had once rested. Accommodation is available at the municipal rest house named Srabani. A few hotels are located here.

Train services are available from Howrah through Bandel Junction. A narrow gauge railway also runs from Bardhaman to Katwa.
