Kalyani




Kalyani, formerly known as Roosevelt Town, lies in Nadia District of West Bengal. Founded in 1914, it is now a sub-divisional town by itself headed by an SDO. Covering an area of about 29 sq km, Kalyani is about 55 km north of Kolkata.

Picnic Garden, Don Bosco Church, Central Park and the Lake connected to the river Ganga are some among the places to see at Kalyani. The University of Kalyani and Kalyani Government Engineering College are two famous educational institutes here. Sati Mar Mela celebrated here on the previous night of Holi attracts people from far-off places.

Kalyani has four railway stations of which Kalyani Main Station is the prominent. The Barrackpore-Kalyani Expressway is a major road, which connects the town with Kolkata.
