Ho Tribe




Hos are a primitive tribe mainly inhabiting in the Keonjhar District of Orissa. They live along with other tribes. Majority of the them speak Ho Language while some speak Oriya and Mundari.

Hos dwell in houses made of mud with roofs thatched with straw. The walls of the house are garnished with artistic designs which speak of their aesthetic sense. They wear very little dress and women wear few ornaments.

Agriculture is the main occupation. Hunting and dancing in moon-lit are the main pass time.

Sin Bonga is the supreme deity of Hos but they also worship other Hindu gods and goddess. Akshaya Trutiya, Salui Puja, Makar Sankranti, Sohrai Festival and Karama are the main festivals celebrated.

Ho Dance, performed by them during the Magh Festival in January, is the chief attraction of the tribes. All restrictions are set aside during the celebrations.
