Bankura




Bankura, the headquarters of Bankura District, is located north of Dhaleshwari (Dhalkisor) River and is an important agricultural center. Bankura is 185 km north-west of Kolkata.

This place is well known for its handicrafts especially the Bankura horse. There are several educational institutions including a medical college and an engineering college. Rice and oilseed milling, metal ware manufacture and cotton weaving are the major activities of the town. There is also railway workshop at Bankura.

Mukutmanipur, Bishnupur, Jhilmil and Susunia constitute the nearby attractions.

Nearest airport is at Kolkata. Bankura Junction Railway Station is a prominent railhead of West Bengal. Bankura Bus Station is located in the heart of the town.
