Nadia District




Nadia District is about 25 miles north of Kolkata. Krishnanagar on the banks of the river Jalangi is the district headquarters. Temples and monuments make this region illustrious.

The Hooghly is the main river. The Durga temple and Roman Catholic churches are famous for their architectural splendor. Mayapur, Nabadwip, Rajbari, Krishnanagar, Protestant Church, College Bhavan and Krishnanagar Academy are the other famous places to visit. The 15th century mystic Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and poet Ramprasad Sen belong to Nadia District.

Krishnanagar is known for its clay dolls made in the suburb of Ghurni on the river Jalangi.
