Advaita Acharya

Advaita Acharya is believed to have appeared in 1434 in Lauda, a village in present day Bangla Desh and lived in Shantipur and Mayapur, West Bengal. He appeared around sixty years before Lord Chaitanya's own advent. Advaita acharya appeared on the earth to deliver the souls of the righteous. He was the head of the Vaishnava community of Nadia.

Distressed by the purely materialistic mentality of the people, acharya prayed fervently for the incarnation of the lord to redeem mankind from the miseries of material existence. He indulged in continuous worship of the lord with water of the Ganges and leaves of the holy Tulsi tree.

Advaita acharya is said to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and Sadashiva. Pleased with his devotion, Lord Vishnu descended as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Advaita acharya lived for a further 25 years after Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's disappearance. He attained samadhi at 125 years of age.
