Saharanpur, located at the northwestern part of Uttar Pradesh close to Haryana border, was founded by Raja Sah Ranveer Singh in 1647. It is 573 km away from the capital city, Lucknow. The holy rivers the Ganges and Yamuna flows on either side of the city with the Shivalik hills at the northern frontier. The city also holds some of the most beautiful decorative designs and motifs of the ancient Havelis. There is also a cantonment in the city area.

Saharanpur is the heart of the sugarcane-producing region with a number of sugar refineries. It is one of the major trade centers of the state. Carpet weaving is also one of the industries here.

The nearest airport is at New Delhi, 187 km away. Saharanpur Railway Station is a major railhead in Uttar Pradesh. The National Highway 78 passes through Saharanpur.
