Champawat



Situated at height of 1,615 m above sea level, Champawat was the erstwhile capital of Chand Raja of Kumaon. It is located in Champawat District of Uttaranchal and is 76 km south of Pithoragarh.

Champawat is famous for its scenic beauty and marvelous sculptures. Lord Vishnu is believed to have taken his second incarnation as Kurma Avatar here. A small fort and the temples of Baleshwar, Champadari, Ratneshwar and Durga adorn the city.

The notable attractions near Champawat are Narsinh Danda, Hingla Devi, Hidimba-Ghatotkach Temple, Maneshwar and Karanteshwar.

The nearest airport is Pant Nagar Airport. The convenient railhead is at Tanakpur, 75 km from Champawat town.
