Bhavishya Badri

Perched at an elevation of 3641 m above sea level, Bhavishya Badri is located 17 km to the east of Joshimath, on the Joshimath-Lata Malari route. Surrounded by dense forests, pilgrims have to trek beyond Tapovan up the Dhauliganga River to reach this holy spot. The enshrined deity here is Lord Narasimha, the god with the head of lion.

It is traditionally believed that a day will come when the present route to Badrinath will be inaccessible and Lord Badrinath will then be worshipped here. Hence the place is called ‘Bhavishya Badri’ which literally means the ‘future Badri’.

Nearest airport is Jolly Grant 297 km from Rishikesh. The nearest railhead, Rishikesh Railway Station, is 280 km. Motorable road is there up to Saldhar, 274 km from Rishikesh and 19 km from Joshimath. Pilgrims have to trek 6 km up to the shrine.

Accommodation is available at Joshimath and Tapovan.
