Lord Soma




Soma is a very common term in Hindu Mythology. Soma is the God of the moon. Lord Soma is represented as riding in the sky in a chariot drawn by two white horses. Soma's wife is Rohini.

The Somnath Temple, situated in Saurashtra off the Gujarat coast, is very ancient and is believed to have been first constructed by Lord Soma. It is very sacred to the Hindus.

In the Vedas, Soma is referred to as an intoxicating drink, which was used in sacrifices. Soma Sacrifice was a common ritual during the Vedic period. It was the soul of the Yajna. Almost one hundred hymns, in the Rig Veda, are dedicated to Soma.
