Pithoragarh




Pithoragarh is a beautiful mountain city which lies in a small valley in Pithoragarh District. It serves as the district headquarters and is situated at an altitude of about 1,650 m above sea level. The city was once an important landmark of the Chand Rajas of Kumaon. The route of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra touches this city. Many rivers originate from the Pithoragarh mountains situated here, which are covered with dense forest and houses a wide variety of animals and birds. It also serves as a treasure house for mountaineers, botanists and religious minded tourists.

The nearest airport is Pantnagar, 151 km and the railhead is at Tanakpur.
