The erstwhile capital of the Garhwal rulers and one of the biggest townships of the Garhwal region, Srinagar is situated in a sprawling valley on the banks of
Alaknanda River. It is located at the junction of roads from

Badrinath. The town serves as the main halting point for the pilgrims undertaking a
yatra to
Char Dham. Garhwal University is located here. The city's climate is characterized by hot summers and cold and foggy winters. Raghunath Temple, Buli Temple, Satyanarayan Temple and Kamsmardani Temple are the major shrines in the town.
