Chounphula Dance




Chounphula is a seasonal folk dance of Uttaranchal. It is performed during the Baisakhi Festival, which marks the harvest period. This dance form is not restricted to any particular community. Both men and women participate in this group dance to celebrate the harvest.

The Chounphula dance involves a series of spinning movements. It is witnessed by all sections of the society and is performed during the night time. The songs sung during the dance performance contain words which praise nature.
