Chakrata




Chakrata, 7,000 ft high, is a hill locked place in Dehradun District of Uttaranchal. It is 92 km from Dehradun and 73 km from Mussoorie. Chakrata was once a cantonment town in British India.

The area is encircled by dense forest, which is dotted with the village of Jaunsar-Bawar. Animals such as spotted dear, wild fowl and panther can be found here. Mundali, which is an ideal spot for trekking and skiing, is on the northern slopes of Chakrata.

The highlight is Kharamba Peak, 10,000 ft high.

Places of interest nearby are Deobar, Kathiyan, Tiger Falls, and Kanasar, which is one of the best cedar forests in Asia. Hanol Mahasu Temple is 120 km away. Accommodation is available in the forest rest house.

Dehradun Railway Station, 95 km away, is the nearest railhead. Jolly Grant Airport, 116 km away, is the nearest airport.
