Askot Sanctuary



Askot Sanctuary is located in Pithoragarh District of Uttaranchal and is around 54 km north-east of Pithoragarh town.

Adorned with glaciers, ridges, beautiful valleys and green pastures, the sanctuary is primarily home to musk deer and snow leopard. Himalayan black bears, snow cocks, bharals, monals, chir and koklas, pheasants and chukors are the other species spotted here. Several high altitude birds are also found.

Summer and spring seasons are ideal for visiting the sanctuary. Accommodation is available at the forest rest houses in Askot, Kaflani, Rugling and Tejam.

The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport. Nearest railhead is Tanakpur Railway Station at Tanakpur (151 km).
