Gopis

Gopis were Krishna's girl friends in Vrindavan. In his childhood stories, Krishna is pictured along with the gopis, who are so enamored with his loving nature that they forego everything and follow him into the forest to dance ecstatically. This symbolizes the everlasting love between humans and God.

Of all the gopis, Krishna’s favorite was Radha. The two are often worshipped together as Radha-Krishna.

Lord Krishna's amorous dalliances with the gopis have been a theme of many great works of art and it continues to inspire artists world over.
