Sikandra

Sikandra, a magnificent tomb of the third Mughal Emperor Akbar, is located 8 km north of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. It is believed to have been built between AD 1603 and AD 1613.

The tomb has an ideal combination of Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist and Jain designs. This combination is similar to a new religion called Deen-e-Ilahi, started by Akbar.

Sikandra is made of red sandstone in inlaid with white marble. It consists of three floors and four slender minarets in a perfect geometrical proportion. There is an open patio on the top.

The tomb can be visited from 06:30 to 17:30 hrs on a small entrance fee except on Friday, when it is free.
