Fatehpur




Fatehpur is situated 80 km southeast of Kanpur, on the famous Grand Trunk Road, in Uttar Pradesh. It is the administrative headquarters of Fatehpur District.

The town was founded by the Pathans in the 15th century. Several dynasties ruled the town until the British wrested power in 1801.

Fatehpur has some industry but predominantly it is an agricultural center. Points of tourist interest are an ancient mosque, tombs and four great masonry pillars belonging to the 19th century, situated west of the town.

Fatehpur railway station is on the Kanpur-Allahabad line. The National Highway 2 passes through Fatehpur. Fatehpur is served by airports at Lucknow and Rae Bareli.
