Kundan Jewelry

Kundan, one of the oldest forms of jewelry making in India, is a Mughal inspired art of setting of stones in gold and silver. It is a gem setting method, where a gold foil is inserted between the stones and its mount. Developed from 24-karat gold strips crafted around glass, Kundan features precious and semi-precious stones.

Kundan Jewelry features precious ornaments on one side and Meenakari work on the back side. The most beautiful pieces of Kundan Jewelry were created during the Mughal era. Until 19th century this was the only form of setting of stones in gold.

The historical significance of Kundan Jewelry is that it was once worn by only Kings and Queens.

Bikaner and Jaipur in Rajasthan is renowned for the finest Kundan Jewelry.
