Chandauli District




Chandauli District of Uttar Pradesh is bordered by Bihar in the east, Ghazipur District in the north and Sonbhadra District in the south. The population is 1.6 million, distributed over an area of 2,485 sq km. Chandauli is the district headquarters.

Chahaniya, a block of Chandauli, is of historical importance. It is believed that Sita, wife of Lord Ram, was exiled here at Chahaniya, earlier known as Dhandhor province. Sage Valmiki took her to his ashram, where Sita spent the period of her exile.

There are many places of interest such as the Chandraprabha wildlife sanctuary, Dhanapur martyr memorial, and Chakiya Kali Mandir.
