Chandauli

Chandauli is the administrative headquarters of Chandauli District in Uttar Pradesh and is around 50 km east of Varanasi.

Chandauli was founded by Chandra Sah, a Barhaulia Rajput of the family of Narotam Rai, after whom the city has been named. A fort built by his descendants, though in ruins, can still be viewed in the town.

Places of tourist interest include Dhanapur Martyr Memorial, Baba Kinaram Sacred Place, Chakiya Kali Mandir, Baba Latifshah Tomb and Chandraprabha wildlife sanctuary.

Nearest airport is at Varanasi. Chandauli Railway Station is on the Mughal Sarai-Sasaram line. National Highway 2 has its route through Chandauli.
