Ghat

Ghat is a flat area or a flight of steps at the bank of a river, lake or pond. Ghats are usually used for ritual baths, worshipping the rising Sun and for worshipping ancestors. Cremations also take place in certain ghats. The ghats of Varanasi, Haridwar, Mathura and Maheshwar are considered very holy and these are all dotted with temples.
