Acharya Narendra Deo




An accomplished lawyer and educationist, Acharya Narendra Deo was one of the pioneers of India's struggle for independence. He was born on 30 October, 1889, at Sitapur District in Uttar Pradesh.

Acharya is considered to be the founder of democratic socialist movement. He exposed new dimensions of Marxism in connection with nascent Indian nationality and democratic ideals. He set aside major portion of his life to implement socialist principles and values for socio-cultural reality.

He was highly influenced by the philosophy and culture of Buddhism, and as a result all his works shared the essence of Buddhism.

In 1938 and 1946, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. He was also the member of the Rajya Sabha. Acharya died on 19 February 1956.
