Chunar Fort, located at
Chunar, is on the northern side of the Kaimur Hills. The fort is ascribed to the renowned
Sher Shah.
The fort is protected by huge walls and it gives a fascinating view of the sunset. It is said that Akbar once captured this fort. The fort was but under the Nawabs of Avadh, till the arrival of the British in 1764. The fort houses the Sonwa Mandap, sun dial and a huge Well.
