Akbarpur is the seat of administration of Ambedkarnagar District, Uttar Pradesh. The town is located around 130 km from Varanasi and 190 km from Lucknow.
Kichhauchha Sharif, situated outside the town, is a well-known Muslim shrine. Tanda, an industrial town in the district, is about 20 km from here.
