Amarpur




Amarpur is situated on the banks of Amarsagar, an artificial lake made in the 16th century. Tourist attractions of the place include a fort, temples and the King’s palace and different historical ruins. A temple dedicated to the eight-headed Goddess Mangalchandi lies on the southern bank of the lake. A fair is held at the temple in February. A large number of devotees are attracted by the Pous-Sankranti (or Makar Sankranti) mela at Tirthamukh in Amarpur sub-division. The mela is held at the source of the Gomati River. Debtamura is situated on the banks of river Gomati, between Udaipur and Amarpur. The rocks on the banks of the river called Chabimura are adorned with images of Shiva, Vishnu, Kartik, Mahisasur, and Mardini Durga, dating back to 15th and 16th centuries. Amarpur was once the capital of King Amar Manikya. There is also another lake by name Fatiksagar in Amarpur.
