Matabari, in
South Tripura district of
Tripura, is the location of the renowned Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 pithas extolled in the Hindu
Puranas. According to legend, the right foot of the goddess Mata
Sati fell at this place.
Matabari is just 4 km from Udaipur and 58 km from Agartala. The ideal time to visit here is during Diwali, when a large fair is conducted. Neermahal and Sipahijala Forest Sanctuary are the other attractions. Nearby accommodation is the Matabari Pantha Niwas.
Matabari block is the first fully literate block of Tripura.
