Venugopala Swamy Temple

Venugopala Swamy Temple stands west of the inner entrance to the lower citadel at Viluppuram in Tamil Nadu. The central deity is Lord Krishna as Venugopala, the player of the flute. This rustic image of Krishna depicts his mythical representation as a cowherd. Another notable feature is the aged, broad slab of granite, found in front of the temple, painstakingly smoothened to a fine polish that it still retains.
