Veeraraghavaswami Temple

Veeraraghavaswami Temple is an ancient temple located at Tiruvallur in Tamil Nadu, 42 km from Chennai. This 9th century temple is dedicated to Veeraraghava (Lord Vishnu), reclining on the holy serpent, Adi Sesha. Kanakavalli (Vasumati) Tayaar, Veeraraghava's consort, is the other deity.

Devotees flock to take a dip in the Hritapanasini tank of the temple on the auspicious Tai-Amavasya day. A dip in, or mere touch of, these waters followed by prayers to Veeraraghava is said to cure all diseases. Because of this, the presiding deity is also called Vaidiya (doctor). At the center of the tank is a mandapam where seasonal rituals are performed. Nearby pilgrim centers are the Amman temples at Tiruverkadu and Mangadu, Adipureeswarar temple at Tiruvottriyur, Shiva temple at Tirukkazhukundram.
